Apple has unveiled the 2026 Designers of Tomorrow, an exhibition presented with Design Miami that returns this year with the theme of presence, exploring how objects shape environments and transform people's experience within them.
The designers
The participants were selected by a jury of global design experts, Alexandra Cunningham Cameron, Fabien Cappello, Jennifer Dunlop Fletcher, Minjae Kim, Hun Chung Lee, Marion Mailaender, Nifemi Marcus-Bello, Jennifer Roberts and Apple's Molly Anderson, judging on storytelling, material innovation and craft. This year's showcase features Salem S. Charabi, Isabel Rower, Yoonjeong Lee and Parafernalia, with a curated showcase by Rodman Primack celebrating a new generation of designers and how they weave Apple products into their process.
A lamp from palm and limestone
Egyptian-Danish architect Salem S. Charabi blends old-world practice with the latest digital tools. His project, The Emergence of Light, is a lamp whose delicate structure of carefully layered coconut-palm fronds contrasts with a limestone base; he used a Japanese-inspired technique to make the shade from banana-fiber paper, and sketched and built 3D models on a MacBook Pro to plan every element. "Light is what we are all instinctively drawn to," he said.
