HONOR launches the Magic9 Pro Max with dual 200MP cameras co-developed with ARRI for film-style color grading, and an 8,800mAh battery

Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip, a 10,000-nit display, launching in China first on Sept 28, with no global market announced yet

HONOR launched the Magic 9 Pro Max, a flagship smartphone featuring two 200MP cameras, partnering with ARRI, the renowned film camera manufacturer, to fine-tune its photo and video system for professional-grade quality.

Dual 200MP cameras

In an era of fierce smartphone competition, HONOR has chosen to differentiate through camera strength. After launching the Magic 8 Pro with a 200MP telephoto camera, the Magic 9 Pro Max now adds a 200MP "ultra-night" main camera. The main camera features an f/1.57 aperture, a 1/1.28-inch sensor, and 3-degree OIS stabilization, while the 200MP telephoto camera has an f/2.6 aperture, a 1/1.4-inch sensor, and OIS as well, alongside a 50MP ultra-wide camera at f/2.0, covering every focal range.

Partnership with ARRI

At the heart of it is HONOR's 6nm H1 Imaging Chip, working with algorithms tuned by a team of experts from ARRI, the legendary film camera maker. The result is ARRI Cinema Mode, supporting ARRI LogC3 (a cinema-grade color recording format), importing LUTs (Look-Up Tables for fine color control), and ready-made preset looks, along with a Magic Color for Video feature for those who want simple video look adjustments. HONOR also says this model's microphone captures clear audio at both close and far range, and supports an optional teleconverter lens without blocking the device's other cameras.

The front camera uses a 55MP square sensor, large enough to crop for both horizontal and vertical framing, with a LiveVideo feature that records a continuous 3-second clip after pressing the shutter, an expansion of the original LivePhoto, which captured 1.5 seconds.

Design and other specs

HONOR shifted from a large circular camera bump to a square camera deck, inspired by vintage multi-lens film cameras, freeing up internal space for a larger battery. Power comes from a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip, paired with 12GB or 16GB RAM, 256GB to 1TB storage, an 8,800mAh Silicon-Carbon battery, with 100W wired and 80W wireless charging.

The display is a 6.8-inch OLED panel at 1320×2868 resolution, with a nano-crystal anti-glare film reflecting just 1.5% of light, reaching up to 10,000 nits (local) or 2,000 nits (global) peak brightness. The body is unibody aluminum with IP68, IP69, and IP69K water and dust resistance. Software is MagicOS 11 on Android 17. A G200 and G500 Teleconverter lens kit is sold separately.

The Magic 9 Pro Max has launched in China first for now, with no official plans yet for a US or global release.
