Apple reportedly developing a screenless health band to rival Whoop, using Apple Watch sensors without a display

Bloomberg reports Tim Cook and Eddy Cue are personally pushing the project, with a launch not expected before 2028 as AI glasses and camera-equipped AirPods take priority

Apple is developing a screenless health-tracking device, similar to the currently popular Whoop, with a prototype already using a fabric band paired with a wrist-worn processing module.

Apple is seriously exploring the screenless health-tracker market. Bloomberg reports the company has been developing prototypes for some time, though no final decision has been made on whether it will actually go into production.

Notably, CEO Tim Cook and Eddy Cue, Apple's head of Services who currently also oversees the health team, are both reportedly very interested in this product, with Cue pushing the direction of building a wearable with a simpler interface, similar to the screenless Whoop and Oura Ring.

Prototype and features

The prototype developed so far is a fabric strap connected to a small computing module worn on the wrist, with sensors measuring heart rate and other health data similar to the Apple Watch — a design that's considerably simpler and lighter.

The latest Apple Watch has already added features similar to Whoop and Oura, such as a Readiness Score and Biological Age Estimate, which serve as overall health indicators. A new version of the Health app is also being tested in iOS 27.2, with an easier-to-use interface and clearer recommendations.

If this project gets the green light, Apple's screenless wrist band likely won't launch before 2028, since Apple plans to release smart AI glasses and camera-equipped AirPods first, around a similar timeframe.
