Canon has launched the EOS R8 Mark II, its latest 24.2-megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera, in a compact body weighing just 546 grams, featuring built-in IS stabilization and a full suite of creative features for both photographers and video creators.

Bangkok, September 16, 2026 — Canon Marketing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. officially announced the launch of the EOS R8 Mark II, building on the EOS R8 with a Coordinated Control IS stabilization system, new creative functions, and an easier-to-use interface.

Design and stabilization

The EOS R8 Mark II reinterprets Canon's signature pentagonal prism shape, blending straight and curved lines, measuring just 131.4 x 90.0 x 79.7mm and weighing around 546 grams, while still featuring in-body image stabilization (IBIS). It's the first full-frame EOS R-series camera in its class to include a joystick-style multi-controller button, making autofocus control easier even when shooting through the viewfinder.

Its full-frame CMOS sensor has roughly 2.5x the light-gathering area of an APS-C sensor, delivering sharp low-light shots and attractive bokeh. Its 5-axis stabilization, when paired with an RF lens that has built-in IS, forms a Coordinated Control IS system that reduces camera shake by up to 7.5 stops at the center of the frame and 7.0 stops at the edges, per CIPA 2024 standards.

Focus and continuous shooting

The Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system, built with Deep Learning, works together with Pre-Continuous Shooting and continuous shooting up to 40 frames per second using the electronic shutter, plus a Register People Priority mode that automatically tracks a pre-registered person — ideal for keeping track of a specific individual in a crowd.

Creative and video features

Two new color tones have been added: NegativeFilmtone, evoking a retro negative-film mood, and PositiveFilmtone, giving the vivid look of slide film, bringing the total to 16 color tones. The Handheld Night Scene mode gains 4 new color styles — Blue, Black & Orange, Pink, and Green — and a Creative AUTO mode offers creative shooting guidance for the first time in a full-frame EOS camera, along with Creative Assist in Background Blur mode for defocusing backgrounds in video.

Video supports 4K 60p using 6K oversampling technology and Full HD 180p with audio, can record Canon Log 3, includes Custom Picture profiles from Cinema EOS with Custom LUT support, and offers 4 wired and wireless livestreaming formats plus multi-camera live switching via the Live Switcher Mobile app. It also supports VR content with both full-frame and APS-C VR lenses, featuring VR Clear Mode, and can convert still images into 3D using the new Dual Pixel 3D Converter software.

New accessories

Canon also launched 3 new accessories: the Extension Grip EG-E2 for the EOS R8 Mark II, the Tripod Grip HG-1000TBR — a multi-purpose tripod grip with BR-E2 Bluetooth remote — and the updated Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2) flash, which extends wireless connection range to 50 meters, up from 30 meters.
