iPhone 18 Pro review: a variable aperture for the first time, a 2nm A20 Pro chip, Thai pricing from 48,900 baht

48MP main camera with a 6-blade variable aperture, longer battery life, better cooling; pre-orders Sept 12, on sale Sept 18

The biggest new feature on iPhone 18 Pro is a 48MP main camera with a variable aperture — a first in iPhone history. The mechanism uses 6 laser-cut blades to control the amount of light reaching the sensor, improving low-light shooting and blurring the background of group photos while keeping subjects sharp. The A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process, delivers 50% more memory bandwidth and 40% stronger graphics than the previous generation, suited for gaming and demanding workloads.

Dynamic Island has been expanded to show up to 3 simultaneous Live Activities while still supporting Face ID. Battery life for the Pro model reaches up to 36 hours of continuous video playback, and the Pro Max reaches 45 hours (eSIM model only), with 50% fast charging in 15 minutes. The cooling system repositions internal memory and adds a vapor chamber 3x larger, paired with a new C2 5G modem that's 15% more power-efficient, plus a new Apple Reference Image feature that stores original sensor data to verify photo authenticity.

Thai pricing starts at 48,900 baht (Pro) and 52,900 baht (Pro Max), rising to 96,900 / 100,900 baht for the 2TB model. Pre-orders opened September 12 at 19:00, with sales starting September 18, in Black, Silver, Glacier Blue and Burgundy. Prices rose about 4,000–5,000 baht from last year, and those waiting for full Thai-language Siri support may need to wait for a future update.
